In Loving Memory of Angel Brizeno
The community of Mission, Texas, is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 21-year-old Angel Brizeno, whose life was tragically cut short in a devastating two-vehicle crash early Friday morning along State Highway 285, west of Riviera. What began as a foggy, rain-soaked dawn on December 12 turned into a moment of unimaginable sorrow—one that has left family, friends, and all who knew Angel grappling with a grief too deep for words.
Around 6:01 a.m., Texas Department of Public Safety troopers were called to the scene of a severe collision involving a 2009 Nissan Sentra and a 2017 Freightliner hauling a trailer. Investigators determined that Angel, traveling eastbound in challenging wet and foggy conditions, drifted onto the eastbound shoulder. In an attempt to safely regain control and return to his lane, the vehicle overcorrected and crossed into the westbound lane. Tragically, it was there that the Freightliner struck the Sentra on the passenger side, causing the fatal impact.
Despite the force of the collision, the 47-year-old driver of the Freightliner was unharmed. Angel, however, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Christopher Lee—a moment that shattered the hearts of loved ones waiting for him to return home.
For several hours, State Highway 285 remained closed as DPS officials and investigators from the Kingsville Highway Patrol Office worked meticulously to understand exactly what happened. The roadway reopened shortly after 12:34 p.m., but for the people whose lives were touched by Angel, nothing about that day will ever be the same.
Angel Brizeno was more than just the victim of a tragic accident; he was a son, a friend, and a young man with dreams, laughter, compassion, and a future he never had the chance to fulfill. At just 21 years old, he carried the promise of a life filled with opportunities and milestones yet to come. Those close to him remember his bright spirit, his kindness, his determination, and the love he shared freely with the people around him.
His unexpected passing leaves a void that cannot be filled. In moments like these, the weight of grief is felt not only by those who loved Angel personally, but by communities who see in him someone far too young to be taken so soon. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him, forever cherished and never forgotten.
As DPS continues its investigation, the community holds tight to one another, offering support and comfort in the face of tragedy. Through shared stories, tears, and prayers, they honor Angel’s life and the profound impact he had in just 21 short years.
May Angel Brizeno rest in eternal peace. May his loved ones find strength, and may his memory shine brightly—guiding them through the difficult days ahead.
