In Loving Memory of Malikai Kazim (J ROC) Homicide Investigation | Fayetteville, North Carolina

The Fayetteville community is mourning the heartbreaking and untimely loss of Malikai Kazim, affectionately known as “J ROC,” whose life was tragically cut short in a shooting early Sunday morning. His passing has left a profound void in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.

In the early hours of December 14, 2025, at approximately 4:28 a.m., officers with the Fayetteville Police Department responded to reports of a shooting in the 5000 block of Cliffdale Road. Upon arrival, officers found a male suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Emergency medical personnel transported him to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where, despite lifesaving efforts, he sadly succumbed to his injuries.

Police later confirmed that another male arrived at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in a personal vehicle seeking treatment for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg. Investigators determined that this individual was connected to the same incident that occurred on Cliffdale Road. Authorities have stated that the shooting is believed to be an isolated incident and that there is no danger to the public.

As detectives with the department’s Homicide Unit continue their active investigation, Malikai’s loved ones are left to grieve a life taken far too soon. To those who knew him, Malikai—J ROC—was more than a name in a report. He was a son, a friend, a loved one, and a presence whose spirit touched many. His smile, his energy, and the memories he created will live on through the stories shared by those who cherished him.
