In Loving Memory of James L. Vos

The City of Burlington is grieving the loss of James L. Vos, an 88-year-old resident whose life was tragically taken in a fatal pedestrian accident early Tuesday morning, December 23, 2025. At approximately 5:14 a.m., the Racine County Communications Center received a report of a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian in the 100 block of North Main Street. City of Burlington Police and Fire Department personnel responded immediately and located Mr. Vos with critical injuries. Despite life-saving efforts, he was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.

Preliminary investigation indicates Mr. Vos was attempting to cross North Main Street from a private parking lot when he was struck by a southbound vehicle. The roadway was temporarily closed to allow officers to carefully process the scene and ensure a thorough investigation. The driver involved, a 41-year-old City of Burlington resident, remained at the scene and was cooperative with authorities. She was not injured. At this time, no criminal charges have been issued, as investigators continue to review factors including speed, visibility, roadway conditions, and cause.

Mr. Vos was a longtime member of the Burlington community, known to many as a familiar and respected presence. His sudden passing has left a deep void in the hearts of his family, friends, and neighbors. The City of Burlington Police Department was assisted by multiple agencies, including the City of Burlington Fire Department, Racine County Sheriff’s Office, Racine County Communications Center, Racine County Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Wisconsin State Patrol’s Technical Reconstruction Unit.
