In Loving Memory of Donald Kelly Forever Remembered • Forever Missed

The City of Jonesboro is mourning the tragic and senseless loss of 50-year-old Donald Kelly, who was found fatally shot early Sunday morning near the intersection of Fayetteville Road and Williamson Mill Road. What began as a quiet early morning quickly transformed into a devastating moment that has left family, friends, and the community grief-stricken and searching for answers.

Around 3 a.m., officers with the City of Jonesboro Police Department responded to a call reporting a man lying in the roadway. Upon arrival, they discovered that Donald had been shot. Despite the swift response from officers, he had already passed away by the time they reached him. The sudden and violent nature of his passing has shaken the community and forever altered the lives of the people who loved him.

Donald Kelly’s life was worth far more than the violence that took him. He was a father, a friend, a family member, and a man whose presence left an impact on those fortunate enough to know him. Those close to him speak of his warmth, his loyalty, and the effortless way he could bring calm or comfort in moments of difficulty. He had a quiet strength, a reassuring presence, and a heart that reached out to others without hesitation. His loss is not just the loss of a life, but the loss of a light within the world of everyone who cared for him.

The investigation into his tragic death is now being conducted with the help of multiple agencies, including the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Clayton County Police Department, and the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office. As detectives work tirelessly to uncover what happened and who is responsible, the community stands united in grief and hope—grief for a life taken too soon and hope for justice that will honor Donald’s memory.

Chief C.E. Cato has stated that, at this time, there is no evidence linking Donald’s death to another homicide that occurred hours later at the Live In Lodge – Extended Stay on Tara Boulevard, which claimed the life of 29-year-old Yoqoubie Yarabough. However, investigators continue to explore every possible connection and lead with the determination to bring clarity and closure to all affected families.

As we remember Donald, we look beyond the circumstances of his passing and choose to honor the fullness of his life. We remember his laughter, the conversations shared, the kindness he extended, and the love he carried for those around him. His memory is carried forward not just in grief, but in the stories that reflect who he truly was—a man who deserved safety, dignity, and the chance to continue his life in peace.

To Donald’s family and loved ones, we extend our deepest condolences. Losing someone to such senseless violence is a pain that words can never fully soothe, but may you find strength in each other and in the memories that cannot be taken away. May you also find comfort in knowing that your community stands beside you, sharing your sorrow and supporting your call for justice.

To the community, let us honor Donald Kelly by remaining vigilant, compassionate, and united. If anyone has information—no matter how small—it may be the missing piece needed to bring justice and healing. Please reach out to the Jonesboro Police Department at (770) 478-7407 or Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta at 404-577-TIPS (8477).
