In Loving Memory of Domingo Chavarria

In Loving Memory of Domingo Chavarria

The community of Lovington is grieving the heartbreaking loss of Domingo Chavarria, a 45-year-old resident whose life was tragically cut short in a devastating crash on Highway 83 Saturday evening. What began as an ordinary night quickly became a moment that forever changed the lives of Domingo’s family, friends, and all who knew him.

Around 6:30 p.m., deputies with the Lea County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a violent two-vehicle collision near South Ponderosa Lane. When they arrived, they found a scene marked by the force of the impact—a black 2004 Ford F-250 positioned sideways across both lanes of the highway, heavily damaged from a head-on collision. Nearby, in a ditch on the north side of the road, sat a black 2015 GMC Yukon, also bearing severe front-end damage. Behind the wreckage and flashing lights was the heartbreaking reality: Domingo Chavarria, the driver of the GMC, had suffered fatal injuries and passed away at the scene.

Domingo’s loss has sent shockwaves through Lovington. He was a man deeply loved—someone known not just by name, but by his kindness, his presence, and the relationships he built over time. Whether through his work, his friendships, or the quiet everyday moments that define a life well-lived, Domingo touched many hearts. Those who knew him describe a man who was hardworking, loyal, and devoted to his family. His absence will be felt in countless ways, from the empty space at family gatherings to the silence where his laughter once filled the room.

In times like these, words often fall short. The suddenness of Domingo’s passing brings a grief that is sharp and immediate, accompanied by questions that bring little comfort. As investigators with the LCSO traffic division work to determine the circumstances that led to the crash, his loved ones are left to navigate the painful reality of life without him. There is no easy way to make sense of a tragedy like this, but there is strength in remembering, in sharing stories, and in honoring the life Domingo lived.

Tonight, Lovington mourns—but it also remembers. It remembers Domingo not for the way his life ended, but for the countless ways he enriched the lives of those around him. His memory will live on in the hearts of family members who loved him without limit, friends who shared in his joys and struggles, and a community that will never forget the man lost too soon.

May his family find comfort in the support surrounding them. May his friends hold tight to the memories that bring both tears and smiles. And may Domingo Chavarria rest peacefully, his spirit carried forward by all who cherished him.

Rest in eternal peace, Domingo. You are gone, but your memory remains—forever loved, forever missed.
