In Loving Memory of Gregory Free Honoring a Life Lost Too Soon
The Morgan City community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 42-year-old Gregory Free, a beloved resident, friend, and family man whose life was tragically cut short following a devastating motorcycle crash on Monday, December 1, 2025. In the early morning hours—at approximately 7:17 a.m.—the Morgan City Police Department responded to a two-vehicle collision involving a motorcycle and a Jeep near the intersection of LA 70 and Victor II Boulevard. What began as an ordinary morning became a moment that forever changed the lives of many.
According to investigators, a 2013 Jeep Wrangler traveling southbound on LA 70 attempted to make a left turn onto Victor II Boulevard under a flashing yellow arrow. At that same moment, Gregory, operating his 2001 Honda VTX motorcycle, was traveling northbound through the intersection. In an instant, their paths crossed, resulting in a violent collision that left a lasting impact on the community.
Gregory was immediately transported to a local hospital, where medical teams fought diligently to save him. Despite their efforts, he later succumbed to the injuries sustained in the crash. His loss has sent waves of grief throughout Morgan City, touching the hearts of all who knew him.
A passenger riding with Gregory was ejected from the motorcycle during the collision and suffered moderate to severe injuries. They were transported to an out-of-area hospital for further care. The driver of the Jeep also sustained moderate injuries and was taken to an out-of-area hospital for treatment. The Morgan City Police Department reports that the crash remains under active investigation as officials work to piece together the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
While the details of the crash are still being examined, what remains beyond question is the profound impact Gregory had on the lives around him. Those who knew him describe Gregory as a kind-hearted, genuine, and spirited individual—someone who carried warmth wherever he went. He was known for his passion for motorcycles, his loyalty to friends and family, and his ability to bring comfort and laughter to even the toughest days. His passing leaves a space that cannot be filled, yet his influence and memory continue to shine through the people who loved him.
Memories of Gregory will forever include the small moments—his smile, his willingness to help others, his dedication to those he cared for. Though his time on this earth was tragically shortened, the impact he made in those 42 years will be carried with those who remain.
As the investigation continues, the community unites in grief, in remembrance, and in support of all those affected by this devastating loss. Gregory Free will forever be remembered not for the tragedy of his passing, but for the life he lived—full of heart, humanity, and love.
May he rest in peace, and may those who mourn him find comfort in the memories that will forever keep his spirit alive.
