In Loving Memory: Clarksville Man Among Victims in Ensley Double Homicide
ENSLEY, Ala. — The Ensley community is mourning the tragic loss of two lives following a deadly shooting at an apartment over the weekend. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has identified the victims as 43-year-old Sonny Dewayne Arrington of Clarksville and 76-year-old Carlton Rufus Allen of Birmingham. Authorities reported that an unidentified woman was also shot during the incident and is expected to survive.
The shooting occurred Saturday night at approximately 11:25 p.m. in the 1400 block of 20th Place in Ensley. According to police, the incident began as a family dispute that escalated tragically. Officer Truman Fitzgerald told WBRC that the suspect, believed to be a family member, allegedly fired into the apartment, resulting in the deaths of Arrington and Allen.
Law enforcement officials quickly responded to the scene, providing assistance to the surviving victim and securing the area. The suspect has been taken into custody, and authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the full circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
Sonny Dewayne Arrington, described by friends and family as a devoted family member and cherished friend, leaves behind a community that is grappling with shock and grief. Carlton Rufus Allen, a longtime Birmingham resident, was remembered by neighbors as a kind and respected elder in his community.
“This is a heartbreaking tragedy that has shaken both families and our community,” Officer Fitzgerald said. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the loved ones of the victims during this incredibly difficult time.”
Police have urged anyone with additional information about the shooting to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
