In Loving Memory: Honoring Lives and the Heroes Who Respond
On Wednesday afternoon, December 10, a tragic accident along US Highway 64, just west of Plymouth, forever changed the lives of everyone touched by the individuals involved. At approximately 2:50 p.m., emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene of a devastating collision—one that would call upon the courage, composure, and compassion of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol and first responders in Washington County.
Investigators determined that a 2016 Nissan driven westbound by 74-year-old Elaine Gregory Bradley of Corolla crossed the centerline and collided with a 2020 Western Star dump truck carrying a load of asphalt. The impact of the crash was severe. Despite the swift response from law enforcement, fire-rescue personnel, and emergency medical teams, Elaine Bradley was tragically pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the dump truck was transported by air to ECU Health in Greenville to receive treatment for serious but not life-threatening injuries. Thanks to the efforts of those who responded, his life was preserved, and he continues on a path toward recovery.
