In Loving Memory of Andrew Westlund
The Ontario community is mourning the tragic loss of Andrew Westlund, a 42-year-old resident who died following a reported road rage incident that escalated into a fatal shooting on Lexington Springmill Road near U.S. 30. The shocking event has left the community grappling with the sudden and violent loss of life.
According to preliminary reports from the Ontario Police Department, two vehicles were involved in a confrontation while traveling southbound on Lexington Springmill Road. The incident escalated when Mr. Westlund reportedly exited his vehicle and approached the other driver, 27-year-old Wesley Patrick. During the confrontation, Patrick reportedly fired a single round from inside his vehicle, striking Mr. Westlund. Emergency responders transported Mr. Westlund to a local hospital, where he was tragically pronounced deceased.
Authorities responded promptly, with the Ontario Police Department receiving assistance from the Richland County Prosecutor’s Office, Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Richland County Sheriff’s Department, Springfield Township Fire Department, Ontario Street Department, and the Ohio Department of Transportation. Roadways were temporarily closed to ensure scene security and allow a thorough investigation. Wesley Patrick was taken into custody and charged with Voluntary Manslaughter.
