It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we remember the life of Herbert B. Thomas, Jr., a 67-year-old resident of Randallstown, Maryland, whose life was tragically lost on the night of December 29, 2025, following a dwelling fire at his home on the 3800 block of Cherrybrook Road.
Fire crews were dispatched to the scene at approximately 10:14 p.m., where they encountered active fire coming from both the front and rear of the residence. During the course of the incident, Mr. Thomas was able to exit the home safely. In a final act that speaks profoundly to his character and compassion, he returned inside in an effort to locate and save his beloved dogs. Tragically, Mr. Thomas and his two dogs were later found together inside the home, having all succumbed to the fire.
Baltimore County Police Department fire investigators later determined that the fire was accidental, caused by unattended cooking. This heartbreaking loss marks the fourth fire-related fatality in Baltimore County in 2025, a sobering reminder of how quickly everyday moments can turn into devastating tragedies.
Herbert B. Thomas, Jr. will be remembered not only for the life he lived, but for the love and loyalty he showed until his final moments.
