In Loving Memory Of Margie Berry
Deputies say the suspect in a Berea homicide was found dead in a car along I-75 in Whitley County, after an attempt to pull him over on Sunday.
The Madison County Coroner says 77-year-old Margie Berry was found dead in a home on Leslie Drive in Berea Saturday night. Her cause of death has not yet been released.
The Whitley County Sheriff’s Office says the suspect is Kevin Berry.
Berea Police confirmed Berry is Margie’s son.
Williamsburg Assistant Chief of Police Brandon White says around 10 a.m. on Sunday, Kentucky State Police asked officers to keep an eye out for a car tied to the Berea homicide. Troopers said it was traveling from Tennessee into Kentucky.
White says he spotted the car heading north on I-75 in Williamsburg and followed it. The car started to pull into the shoulder, which is when White says he turned on his lights and sirens.
According to White, the car continued into a grassy area before rolling into a rock wall, where it came to a stop.
White says he gave several commands to the driver but received no response and saw no movement inside the vehicle.
Eventually, officers say they used a drone to see inside the car. That’s when they determined it was safe to approach it.
White says they found Berry dead inside the car.
I-75 in Whitley County was shut down in both directions for roughly an hour and a half until police determined there was no threat to the public.
