In Loving Memory of Mark A. Nelson Potosi, Wisconsin — December 2025
The Potosi community is mourning the sudden and heartbreaking loss of Mark A. Nelson, 55, whose life was tragically cut short in an early-morning UTV crash on Sunday. His passing has left family, friends, and neighbors reeling, as a man known and loved by many was taken far too soon.
According to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office, emergency crews were dispatched around 6:30 a.m. to Wildcat Road in the Town of Darlington following a 911 call reporting a UTV crash with injuries. Investigators determined that a 2025 Can-Am UTV was traveling eastbound when it failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway, and struck a tree. Mark was the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle. He was partially ejected during the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Lafayette County Coroner’s Office.
Sheriff’s deputies, Darlington Fire Department, and Lafayette County EMS responded swiftly, and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources was also notified. Authorities later confirmed that Mark was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
Beyond the tragic details, Mark A. Nelson was a life deeply rooted in his community. To those who knew him, he was more than a name in a report—he was a friend, a neighbor, a loved one whose presence mattered. At 55, Mark carried years of stories, experiences, and relationships that shaped the lives of those around him. His sudden absence leaves a void that cannot be filled.
In the days ahead, loved ones will remember Mark through shared memories, laughter, and the moments that defined who he was. These memories—both ordinary and extraordinary—now serve as a source of comfort and a lasting tribute to a life that meant so much to so many.
As the community comes together in grief, thoughts and prayers are extended to Mark’s family and all who are mourning his loss. May they find strength in one another, peace in cherished memories, and comfort in knowing that Mark A. Nelson will always be remembered with love and respect.
Rest in peace, Mark.
Gone too soon, but never forgotten. 🕊️
