In Loving Memory of Mayor Ren Hatt

The community of Green River is mourning a tremendous and heartbreaking loss following the tragic accident that claimed the life of 40-year-old Mayor Ren Hatt. The fatal collision occurred on the evening of December 5 along Highway 6, forever changing the lives of those who loved and respected him. The news has shaken the entire city, leaving a deep and painful void where a vibrant leader, a devoted family man, and a cherished friend once stood.

According to reports from the Utah Highway Patrol, a 2021 Freightliner semi traveling westbound drifted into the eastbound lane near mile marker 296, striking the passenger side of Mayor Hatt’s vehicle head-on. Despite immediate response efforts, Mayor Hatt tragically lost his life at the scene. The semi driver was unharmed, and impairment is not believed to have been a factor. An investigation into the accident remains ongoing.

But far beyond the details of the incident, what the community feels most profoundly is the loss of the man himself—someone who embodied dedication, compassion, and an unwavering love for Green River and its people.

Mayor Ren Hatt served his city not just as an elected official, but as a genuine public servant whose heart beat in rhythm with the community he cherished. He was known for his honesty, his kindness, and his steadfast commitment to making life better for everyone who called Green River home. Whether he was attending events, answering concerns, supporting local initiatives, or simply offering a friendly smile and encouraging word, Mayor Hatt led with integrity and humility.

His presence was not loud or boastful, but deeply impactful. He believed in Green River’s potential, advocated for its growth, and worked tirelessly to preserve its spirit. Every decision he made reflected his devotion to the people he served. His leadership was filled with thoughtfulness and sincerity—qualities that earned him respect far beyond the boundaries of the city he represented.

The Green River community expressed it beautifully: “Mayor Hatt loved this community deeply, and he served it with honesty, kindness and unwavering commitment.” Those words ring painfully true as family, friends, colleagues, and neighbors navigate a grief that feels almost too heavy to carry.

In this moment of loss, Green River stands together—united not just by sadness, but by gratitude for the legacy Mayor Hatt leaves behind. His impact will continue to shape the community for years to come. His vision, his spirit of service, and his genuine care for others will remain woven into the fabric of the city he led so faithfully.

We hold his family in our hearts during this unimaginably difficult time. Their sorrow is shared by everyone who had the privilege of knowing Mayor Hatt or witnessing the goodness he poured into his work and relationships. May they find comfort in the outpouring of love and support from near and far.

As Green River moves forward, it carries with it not just the memory of a mayor, but the memory of an extraordinary human being—one whose compassion, leadership, and dedication left an imprint that can never be erased.

Rest in peace, Mayor Ren Hatt. Your service, your kindness, and your love for this community will never be forgotten.
