In Loving Memory of Stoughton Crash Victims

The Stoughton community is grieving a tragic and violent event that occurred Saturday morning, December 20, 2025, when a high-speed police pursuit ended in a fatal collision, claiming the life of an elderly local man and leaving another seriously injured. The devastating incident has left friends, family, and neighbors struggling to come to terms with the loss and the senseless nature of the tragedy.

According to authorities, the incident began in Brockton when a pickup truck, driven by 26-year-old Jason Ortiz, fled from Brockton Police. The pursuit traveled toward the Stoughton town line, where the truck collided with a vehicle at the intersection of Pleasant and Prospect streets. Inside the car were two elderly occupants: an 84-year-old man, who was transported by the Stoughton Fire Department to a local hospital and later pronounced deceased, and a 78-year-old woman, who sustained serious injuries and was taken to a Boston hospital. The victims’ names have not been released as the family is being notified.

Following the crash, the two male occupants of the fleeing truck attempted to escape on foot. Stoughton Police, with the assistance of Brockton Police and K9 units, apprehended both suspects, ensuring that justice could begin to be served. Jason Ortiz has been charged with multiple offenses, including motor vehicle homicide, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and personal injury, leaving the scene of property damage, and failing to stop for police.

Stoughton Police Chief Donna McNamara confirmed that the department, together with Massachusetts State Police Detectives, the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office, and specialized collision analysis units, is actively investigating the crash. The inquiry will include a full review of the events leading to the collision, the pursuit, and all contributing factors.
